Huge congratulations are in order for Jason Welker and his students at the Shanghai American School for their win in the Best Educational Wiki category of the 2007 Edublog Awards.
For the past two years, Mr. Welker and his students have worked to build out an online extension of their Advanced Placement Economics curriculum — taking full advantage of the wiki platform, as well as a wide variety of Web 2.0 widgets and plugins, to create a robust, thriving online space for collaborative learning.
Springboarding from a wiki knowledge base chockfull of class information, syllabi, and assignments, Mr. Welker maximized the communal learning potential of his students by setting up a Test Review Center Gabbly chat room widget on the wiki’s homepage, pulling in economics-related RSS feeds, and encouraging students to dialogue with each other through discussion threads about curriculum topics and current events.
Congratulations, again, Welker’s Wikinomics — you make momma proud!
