2008 Election Race Tracker Puts It All Together

Posted by Devin on September 29th, 2008 comments No Comments

Continuing with the trend of writing about topics people actually care about in the here and now, there is another fantastic Wetpaint site worth stopping by as the election season comes near…

race-tracker-2.png

The 2008 Race Tracker has detailed listings of all the relevant Gubernatorial, House and Senate races coming up in the United States this year.  Thousands of members have built the tracker using an amazingly easy to navigate platform.  Site organization is broken down from the type of seat you are interested in, to the state and finally the district.

If you’re like me, or even a little like me, you want to be as informed as possible on the candidates in the elections you’re going to be a part of.  But, you do have a life, and a pretty hectic one at that.  That life hardly allows ample time to let you feel comfortable in what you know about the candidates and their stances on the issues that matter to you the most.  Finally, a site (one built by tons of people, because, collectively we all have enough time to contribute what we do know) has accumulated information on all these candidates at your disposal!  Not only can you read about each candidate, find links to articles, videos and other interesting things, but you can communicate with everyone else while your at it!

So stop by to find out what you really want to know about the candidates that matter to you, and help out!  Leave behind what you know for everyone else!

wikiRadiography: A Resource Anyone Can Use

Posted by Devin on September 26th, 2008 comments No Comments

One of the most exciting and feel good stories about Wetpaint is the development of our Wikis in Education program.  Our Community Marketing Manager, and fellow blog writer, Michael Bolognino, has headed this program for us since its beginning and it’s been a success the entire way.  Teachers, students and parents are finding out how useful Wetpaint sites can be in organizing their classes, curriculums and meetings.  The inception of the new school year has also seen a huge spike in the activity on our educational sites as teachers are finding they can continue to communicate with their students outside the classroom for projects while students are able to communicate and collaborate with classmates via the web to work on projects, homework and anything else they want.  Que one of the most fantastic sites: wikiRadiography.

wikiradiography.png

wikiRadiography has been developed and maintained by students, professors and professionals.  The site has compiled numerous journals, reports, case studies and even instructional and basic radiography and other health related videos.  Contribution and questions are completely encouraged by the community as it’s a resource they’ve made available to everyone.

So, if you are a student or professional in the field, or know someone who is, encourage them to stop by and share some of their experiences and knowledge while sharing some of your own!

An Effort to End Voter Suppression

Posted by Devin on September 25th, 2008 comments No Comments

voter_suppression1.pngThis November will mark the election of the 44th President of the United States in what is anticipated to be one of, if not the most voted upon in history.  The campaigns of Republican Nominee John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are in full force as the voting date draws closer and closer.  No matter what candidate you might be leaning towards, there is certainly one issue that everyone can take a solid stance against; voter suppression.

Baratunde Thurston from the popular blog Jack & Jill Politics, made a Wetpaint site, called the Voter Suppression Wiki to organize and further his efforts to educate, identify, and eradicate voter supression all over the country.  The site is precise, to the point, and easy to navigate from the definition of Voter Suppression to an Action Center where active groups working to ensure voting rights are made accessable to anyone looking to take a stand on the controversial issue.  Thurston encourages everyone who visits the site to participate in the site’s construction and at the very least to give their opinion in the discussion threads at the bottom of each page focused on a variety of different topics.  There also exists an Incident Tracker where examples of voter suppression can be documented with their stories, impacts, and results.

The politically motivated site has a great message and if you’ve experienced or heard of any incidents of voter suppression I’m sure Baratunde would appreciate you sharing it!

Collaborative Anatomy Sharing, Don’t Worry, It’s Not What You Think…

Posted by Devin on September 15th, 2008 comments No Comments

Anatowiki Header

Welcome to a place for all anatomy students, enthusiasts, and curious minds.  The Anatowiki is  fantastic resource for all anatomy knowledge where hundreds of people have collaborated to build one of the most comprehensive sites on the web.   The site originated with students in two Human Anatomy classes (one at Provo College, one at USU Brigham City).  Projects, reports, and valuable information sources have been gathered here and are viewable to anyone!

The site was nominated for a Golden Pain Can Award in the “Education 2.0″ category a few months ago and is a perfect place for studying (I love the “Funny Videos” page for great comic relief).

Feel free to stop by and soak up a little info, and perhaps share some of your anatomy, knowledge, of course!

It’s Back Ladies & Gentlemen!

Posted by Devin on September 12th, 2008 comments No Comments

Sleep easy, now, Wetpaint crew.

In record time the aforementioned Wurlitzer has re-emerged in the Wetpaint office.  Candy is aflowin’ and spirits are high heading into the weekend with everyone knowing they can expect to see the Wurlitzer when they return on Monday.

“It’s fantastic!” claimed deskmate, and dedicated handler of the Wurlitzer, Chris Kollas (see Chris with the Wurlitzer in the previous post about the tragic accident).

We all agree, Chris.

All is back in order here at the HQ.

Bike Ride for Marty

Posted by Kevin on September 12th, 2008 comments No Comments

Marty LevinThis weekend in Carnation, Washington there will be a bike ride to raise money for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in memory of Marty Levin.  Marty’s daughter Jenna and her friend Josh organized the event as part of their B’nai Mitzvah in the hopes that money raised would be able to benefit many people.  Marty’s fight with multiple myeloma and his desire to share what he knew with others similarly dealing with the disease was a big part of the inspiration behind the creation of Wetpaint.  You can read a wonderful tribute to Marty written by his friend Gerry.  (You’ll love the Melinda Gates story.)  So if you’re interested in riding, show up September 14th at 10:30am at Jubilee Farms.  There will be a wonderful lunch served afterward.  And even if you can’t make it, you can help support research by donating to help find a cure.  Ride on!

Eating Right Never Tasted So RAW!

Posted by Devin on September 8th, 2008 comments No Comments

Raw Way Screen Shot

We’ve noticed a large community gathering here at Wetpaint around an increasingly popular diet (many refer to this as a Life Style) regimen.  The diet is referred to as a “Raw Foods Diet” and essentially involves only consuming unprocessed foods that have not been heated above 110 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Heating foods to these high temperatures destroys some of the original nutrient content of the food, as well as enzymes which aid in the digestion and absorption of food.

There are many benefits to a Raw Foods Diet, an abundance of great stories from The Raw Way’s hundreds of members of how the Life Style changed people’s lives.  Experienced benefits include:

The community is a great resource for anyone using the Raw Foods Diet, or just wanting to find out more to see if it’s right for them.  There are pages regarding FAQsHow to Get Started, How to Dine Out, Popular Raw Restaurants, and much more!

Congrats to The Raw Way community for getting a guest post on CalorieLab’s blog! CalorieLab is an amazingly popular blog that ranks 1st on Blogged for  keywords as ‘Diet’ & ‘Weight Loss’.
