In an article published yesterday (Sunday, Oct. 26th, 2008) the NY Times’ Noam Cohen gave a direct link to VoterSuppression.net, a Wetpaint site founded by well known comedian Baratunde Thurston and writer/reporter Jon Pincus! Jon was even quoted in the article talking about the challenges of getting people together in one place, where they can coordinate efforts to ensure a fair and accurate election come November 4th. The article itself detailed several significant events and trends that have gotten recognition on the national scale including paid off voting in North Carolina where citizens have proven the potential to photograph their votes via camera phone or small digital cameras which they could then turn over to a lobbyst for compensation, and voter suppression like in upstate New York where several hundred absentee ballots were mailed out to voters with the typo “Barack Osama” under the Democratic Presidential Nomination bubble. Many of these events, efforts and more have been collaboratively documented on the Voter Suppression Wiki already and continue to grow.
A quick congrats to Baratunde, Jon, and everyone else who’s contributed on the Voter Suppression Wiki and helped make it the go-to place on the internet for all instances regarding unfair election practices!
Find Noam Cohen’s article HERE, I’d highly suggesst taking a glance at it!
